How to read less and be better informed

Reading TipsLike everyone else I am also flooded with information. But I don't necessarily feel that I am getting better informed. Reading forwards of jokes and conspiracy theories is not helping me. So I was looking for ideas on how to get better informed. Here are some great suggestions I came across. I have picked 4 ideas that I liked.1. CONSUME LESS BUT BETTER DATA - I have exited almost all the WhatsApp groups & stopped reading/responding to anyone who forwards junk. It takes away your time and mind space.2. TRAVEL - but take the untrodden path. Stop and talk to strangers who are very unlike you. Get a different point of view. Get out of your bubble. Build diversity in your group of friends.3. FIND "TALL POPPIES": That describes people who are doing "unusual" things (of course, what is unusual for you is usual for someone else). Network with remarkable people who are hungry for interesting information.4. READ THE WEEKEND EDITIONS OF QUALITY NEWSPAPERS: Build quiet time for reading, reflecting and contemplating. Switch off your phone and social media notifications when you read. Being mindful as you read is the best way to absorb what you are reading. Bill Gates takes a "reading retreat" by going to the forest and reading undisturbed. Try it.I posted this on Twitter @AbhijitBhaduri and some people shared their ideas"

  • Network with people from different vocations says
  •  says, "Definitely the 1st step is know your neighbours, atleast 10 houses around. In a apartment, 3 floors immediate."
  •  shared his tip: If you can get past “being neutral on current events”, then “practicing selective ignorance”, cultivating “tall poppies”, and “bursting bubbles” make a lot of sense & are easily doable. I have seen
     do this very effectively.
  •  shared her tip: "I like the "find the tall poppies" one too- I often finish my presentations with "Who is your canari ?"

Ask 2 people you consider to be well informed and share their tips with me. Thanks.Source: The Quartz
